If March was a very interesting month for amazing releases, i cannot say April was boring. Here they are my tips for the month:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Mosquito (alternative rock, garage punk)
They usually wait 3 years to publish a new LP, this time we had to wait 1 year more! We were very impatient to listen this new work! I can say that it’s less ‘noisy’ and involving than their first work (a real masterpiece) but still a YYY album and their talent is intact. Provocative.
The Knife – Shacking the Habitual (Indie Electronic)
I can tell now already: this double LP is in the top 10 of 2013 releases! After (amazing) Fever Ray solo album we were scared that this project was going to end, but fortunately they worked together again to create this amazing chapter. Disc 1 is pure The Knife style, Disc 2 is instrumental and more experimental. Hypnotic.
Miss Kittin – Calling From the Stars (electro-techno, neo-electro)
Four years after her last work with The Hacker, french DJ/composer/producer, Caroline Herve comes back with a great release! A double LP very intense and captivating. Cerebral.
Bonobo – The North Borders (downbeat, ambient brackbeat)
New work for the english producer Simon Green published on glorious Ninja Tune records. Erykah Badu is one of the hosts in this LP. One of the best downbeat representative artists. Freewheeling.
Simian Mobile Disco – Live (alternative dance, electro-techno)
Started as rock/electro band (as Simian) this project is definitely more electro but not less interesting. They became famous for many remixes but also for their original works! They remind me of 2manydj’s (they also started as rock/electro band–>Soulwax) and Justice as similar style. This is a live LP, it can be a good start if you don’t know them. Confident.
ps i’ve chosen this video both for the song and the video itself obviously! 🙂
!!! – Thr!!!er (alternative dance, alternative/indie rock)
Fifth chapter for this very original band (starting from the name, pronounced ‘chk chk chk’) formed in NYC in mid ’90s . It’s difficult to categorize them in one style since they use many instruments plus they like to mix several genres. You have to ‘try’ them and you won’t be disappointed (especially their debut LP). Irreverent.
Telekinesis –Dormarion (alternative, indie rock)
American songwriter Michael Lerner is the founder of this project. This last LP in particular is produced by Chris Walla (Death Cub For Cutie producer) and Spoon drummer Jim Eno actively collaborated. Soothing.
See you next month!
