June Best Releases

Heartbpm

In the best month of the year (because it’s my birthday) very interesting works came out.

JACK WHITE – Lazaretto (Alternative Pop/Rock, Punk Blues)

Second solo work for one of the best rock artists nowadays! After The White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather projects, he seems to continue by himself (and in an amazing way like everything he has done). The style is pretty much the same, but always pleasant to listen. Confident.

DEADMAU5 – While (1<2) (Electronic, House, EDM)

Very cool double LP for the canadian author/producer Joel Thomas Zimmermann (more appeal as deadmau5, right?). Comparing to official works, he remixes songs from other artists like, for example, Nine Inch Nails or How to Destroy Angels. Definitely a different and interesting way to love more the mouse (who i highly recommend to see live). Freewheeling.

KLAXONS Love Frequency (Alternative/Indie Rock)

Four years after ‘Surfing the Void’ that personally didn’t rnjoy much, UK band Klaxons came back with an interesting LP, mixed also with some electronic. It seems that they didn’t want to reply ‘Myths of the Near Future’ like the following work, but they want to go forward and, in my opinion, is a good choice. Playful.

THE KNIFE –Shaken Up Versions (Indie Electronic, IDM)

Following the masterpiece Shaking the Habitual, they made an album with remixes of songs from the last work but also from previous ones. Sparkling.

RADIO MOSCOW – Magical Dirt (Blues Rock, Indie Rock)

Coming from Iowa, this interesting trio come back after 2 years with this very enjoyable work. Their style didn’t change much over the years so you won’t be shocked listening this last release. But they always make good works. Boisterous.

May Best Releases

Heartbpm

I was going to put together May and June but so many good releases were published in May that i have decided to make one dedicated. Sorry for the delay, but it’s never too late to listen good music, right?

The Horrors – Luminous (Indie Rock, Garage Rock)

Fourth work for this band coming from UK. Their style didn’t change much since their previous -fantastic- album (Strange House) but they became less ‘dark’ in my opinion. I personally enjoyed all their works, just Skying didn’t impress me much. Anyway, still a very nice work! Trippy.

Archie Bronson Outfit – Wild Crush (Garage Punk, Indie Rock)

In my opinion they are one of the greatest bands nowadays. It’s also their 4th work and i can say that making a following work after masterpiece ‘Coconut’ was not easy. But they bravely continued on the false line of it, making a super nice LP (only 32 min but very intense), fresh, rough and very involving. I also really enjoy their videos. I highly recommend them! Crunchy.

Swans – To Be Kind (Noise Rock, Post Punk, Experimental Rock)

Who has grown up with rock in general and Sonic Youth’s noise rock, obviously knows Swans, american band formed in the post punk NYC era in the ’80s. I admit that sometimes can be too extreme with their sounds, but this last work is a great one. Frontman Michael Gira still surpises with his energy. Raucous.

Robyn/Royksopp – Do It Again EP (Electronic, Downbeat, Alternative Dance)

After the amazing collaboration in the last norwegian duo LP ‘Junior’ (with the amazing song “the girl and the robot”), Roykspp and Robyn did it again. And the result is still very nice, hopefully we’ll also get a full album! Light.

Sébastien Tellier – L’Aventura (French Pop, Ambient Pop)

One of the most creative and changeable artists we have at the moment. Because of the world cup probably, he made a LP recorded between france and brazil, adding other influences in his -already rich- background. Ethereal.

Plaid – Reachy Prints (Electronic, Ambient-Techno)

Turning more into electro, English duo Plaid came back after their very good work ‘Scintilli’. Still published on Warp Records, this LP is a very good mix of different sounds mixed with electronic.

Mr. Scruff – Friendly Bacteria (Electronic, Electro-Funk)

Staying in UK, Andy Carthy came back after a break (his last LP was published in 2008). It’s a typical Mr.Scruff work, full of influences and different styles put together in a Pandora’s box. Animated.

Haunted Hearts – Initiation (Indie Rock, Neo Psychedelia, New Wave)

First work of this duo (they are together also in their life actually) made by Dee Dee (Dum Dum Girls) and Brandon (Crocodiles). The style reflects their original projects so if you like these bands, i’m pretty sure you will like this interesting mix! Rowdy.
